This 1959 BMW R50 (pre-Slash 2) was manufactured July 15th, 1959 and delivered on the same day to the importer BMW-Canada in Toronto. The bike was equipped with a bench seat, which is included in sale with paint-matched mounting hardware. BMW tool kit, and extensive literature included. It was purchased by the present owner 23 Jul 2020 at 26,874 miles and had two prior owners.
Restoration included complete disassembly, vapour blasting, and repainting in Grenada Red with hand-painted white pinstripe. Objective was to make a high-standard rider, not a museum piece. For example, all aluminum was hand-polished only and various patina items were reused where sensible (ignition key switch cover is marked from years of use: despite being an easily attainable part, the look of the original was retained).
Engine disassembled and rebuilt with first boring four thousandths over, new Bosch pistons; new slinger; oil through-hole drilled by prior owner (this was not factory on pre-Slash 2 BMWs; improved oil circulation). Denfeld seat and luggage rack fitted, with paint match hardware. Purists will note these accessories and horn would have been black. New Metlzer tires 2023. New fuel lines and filters. New seals and gaskets throughout. New shock tower rubber bushings. New head brace bearing. Original head covers with casting marks. Triple matching numbers bike in Hagerty “excellent” condition, and currently on BC Collector plate.
The bike is located in North Saanich, BC and is now offered at $21,500.
